Hershey Center for Applied Research Tenant Selected to Present at 3 Rivers Venture Fair

Hershey, PA – July 23, 2009 – Apeliotus Vision Science has been selected to present at the 3 Rivers Venture Fair in Pittsburgh, PA on Sept. 15-16, 2009. The 3 Rivers Venture Fair is among the nation's most prominent showcases of breakthrough innovations in technology, life sciences and energy.

Apeliotus was launched last October to commercialize a novel technology for the early detection of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is the leading cause of adult blindness in developed countries. It affects more than 30 million people worldwide, including 1 in 6 over age 65 and 1 in 3 over age 75. The company’s diagnostic will allow routine detection of AMD in time for intervention before the onset of significant vision loss.

“We are thrilled to have this opportunity to present our story to leading members of the financial community,” said John G. Edwards, co-founder and CEO of Apeliotus Vision Science. “And we appreciate the vote of confidence in our company that this selection represents.”
Apeliotus is seeking funding to support its initial product launch, which is planned for the second half of next year. Previous investors include Life Sciences Greenhouse of Central Pennsylvania and Ben Franklin Technology Partners. The company is housed at the Hershey Center for Applied Research.
