HCAR partners with Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC to raise awareness
of the cultural distinctions that influence business decisions in China.

May 11, 2011

HERSHEY, PA – Hershey Center for Applied Research (HCAR) and Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC are kicking off a new speakers series Thursday, May 12 to educate local business leaders on the cultural customs that drive international business decisions in China.

Inspired by a growing number of international organizations that have located or relocated a facility to Central Pennsylvania, the event will discuss the fundamental cultural considerations, international trade programs and government services that all businesses should be aware of before approaching international audiences.

The event will feature four speakers from the areas of government, business and academia. Collectively, they bring a breadth of experience and a comprehensive understanding of doing business in China.

The event comes at a time when foreign direct investment is bringing millions of dollars to the midstate and adding hundred of jobs in high-tech fields. Within the last two years, the movement has resulted in new research, development and manufacturing spaces for syringe maker Unilife Corp, integrated preclinical services firm vivoPharm and product development company IDE Group Inc.

“Getting organizations to invest in the midstate begins with an understanding of the values and cultural customs that drive lifestyle choices,” Jack Atchason, HCAR Director of Business Development, said. “We’re hosting this event to share what our government leaders and local business leaders have learned when approaching international audiences. Our ultimate goal is to help start a conversation that will lead to more international investment in Central PA.”

HCAR provides strategic services to help international companies seamlessly transition into the U.S. market. From facilitated introductions to integrated strategic business services, the research park provides personalized assistance to help tenants grow and prosper in their new space.

"International companies making the transition to the U.S. market require a lot of support from an operational perspective, and we are proud to provide these services,” Atchason said.  "Every company’s needs are different, but we are always available to assist with processes like incorporation, immigration, recruitment, relocation and financial services. We’re proud to be partnering with Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC to share our experiences and help others find the best approach to partnering with international organizations.”
